Tony Blair. Saint or Sinner?

And so the end is near... And what do we make of our Prime Minister as he prepares to hand over the leadership of the Labour Party probably to his next door neighbour Gordon Brown?
The British political party's have all had their "knives" drawn for sometime now, sensing a chance to finish him off in a very shallow victory. The Press, who have over the years turned their allegiance away from mainly a conservative support to Labour, are back showing their true colours with a rather too personal attack on him, his wife Cherie, and of course his successor. They sense blood, but will not get it!
The British Public in general believe that the time is right for change, and perhaps a change of party is to be welcomed. So just what are the prospects after Emperor Tony has abdicated? The Conservative Party has elected a much younger leader than they have in the past in David Cameron.
This fresh faced guy is trying hard to show he is a general all round good guy, down to earth and in touch with the public. My personal view is that he has yet to impress anyone with any new ideas and is always on about the new era of the Conservative Party. So we have New Conservative, very much like we had New Labour when Mr Blair came in to office. A re-launch, again! We are not worthy.
The Liberal Democrat Party, the usual third party in British politics, have lost a leader, and somehow gained a guy who might stabilize it for a time, but will never be a threat to the other two.
So goodbye Tony Blair. Will we miss you? The answer is yes. In a decade of a fast changing, and more dangerous world than anyone could have imagined, his reign has been flawed, yet sometimes quite magnificent. As proved recently at the Labour conference, he is a speaker second to none in the country. He has brought this country through difficult times to make it a good example to many other country's, especially in Europe. He has stood firm when many of his senior ministers have failed in their public offices either by neglect of duty, or the inability to keep their relationships private and correct.
Dealing with the USA and European Parliament has been a constant problem. Iraq has been the one thing that we are all uncertain of because it showed a serious weakness in the role of the United Nations to be assertive and forthright, and of course for the very sad lives that have been lost. This war was retaliation for the 9/11 tragedy and has brought forth a new dawn of terrorism on a scale we have never seen before Blair is a stubborn guy, possibly exploited by George W.Bush, but has built up a respect that is important for him and the whole country. Let us not forget the success of bringing an end to the IRA terror campaign in N.Ireland.
The end result? Economy is booming, house prices have gone ballistic, unemployment and inflation are both down. Immigration is totally out of control thanks to EEC human rights issues.
So I say good luck to the Prime Minister, (who the heck would want a job like this?), you leave us in a better state now overall then when you first arrived as a guitar strumming nobody. Salute!
